Veritas / Calvin/Nikko / Untitled ~ 256 words
All around them, the camp lay in darkness, tents lit by pale lanterns, ghostly outlines silhouetted against tent walls. The front flaps of all the tents were zipped shut - all of them except one. Rain drops splattered to the ground, kicking up droplets of mud.
In the faint light that had seeped through the tent materials, Nikko and Calvin stood in a silent face off. The water soaked their clothes, made the material stick to them like a second skin.
Nikko shook, but it wasn't from cold. He wasn't pissed, but there was a jumble of emotion coursing through him. He glared at Calvin, waiting for an opening.
When Calvin let out a breath Nikko hadn't realized he was holding, he knew that was the chance he'd been waiting for.
He stepped forward, slid his hand under the edge of Calvin's tee shirt and flattened the palm of his hand on Calvin's hip. He touched his forehead against Calvin’s.
"I'm sorry,” Nikko whispered. He pressed his lips against Calvin's once, hesitantly. He brought his free hand up, fisted the thin material of Calvin’s tee shirt and kissed him again, firmer this time. In front of him, Calvin stood stiff under Nikko's touch and Nikko tried again. "I'm sorry," he whispered against Calvin's lips.
Finally, Calvin relaxed and Nikko was rewarded with a lop-sided half smile. He kissed Nikko, nothing tentative about it, then wrapped long fingers around Nikko’s wrist and tugged him toward their tent. “You idiot,” Calvin whispered affectionately. “Let’s get you dried off.”
