SUMMARY: Chris sees something and misunderstands it. He gets pissy and cranky. Lance tries to talk sense into him. It doesn't work.

A/N #2: I'd planned this to be a bit longer, but real life has a way of blowing up on me lately. This IS part one of three, the next part will be posted a week from today. ;-)

Beautiful days were hard to come by, Lance knew this as he crossed Chris’s patio and relaxed with a cold beer in each hand. The sun was out, it wasn’t too humid, the food was good and for a change there was just a small crowd. Nephews screeched with joy as they rough housed in the pool and the grill sizzled away as Joey cooked some ribs and steaks. The only thing not bright and sunny and cheerful was Chris himself. JC was no where to be found.
He was sitting in a lounge chair off to the side of his patio, glaring at all who came near him. Lance had become immune to Chris’s glares through the years and he ignored it as he passed Chris a fresh beer and sat in the chair next to him. That earned him a quick glance and a glare all his own.
Lance, undaunted, took a drink of his beer and set it down on the glass top table with a thunk. He slid his fingertip through the sweat before speaking. “You have to talk to him, you know,” he pointed out helpfully.
Chris’s reply was a quick grunt before taking a drink of his own beer.
Lance tried one more time. He hated to see his friends fighting, especially when he knew neither one of them were happy. “Chris - ” he began.
Chris stood and set the half empty bottle on the table. “Back the fuck off Lance,” he said before joining Joey at the grill.
