So, a while back here, I'd asked for bunny prompts. The first responses are posted *HERE*

Life got carried away with the end of the school year, landscaping (we're still in the wrecking and destroying phase) and holidays and birthdays and graduations. (oh my!)

I bet you folks thought I'd forgotten, didn't you? Or hell, maybe you guys did too. ;-)

As before, these vary in length.

So anyway, [livejournal.com profile] allyndra asked for Noodles.

It was a well choreographed dance as Shaun and Zach moved around the kitchen in preparation for dinner. Cody was very carefully setting the table on the patio as he'd been shown, Gabe was in the living room with a beer in one hand and his new girlfriend in the other.

Zach moved around to Shaun's other side, bumped their hips gently, and nodded to Cody. He'd finished the table and had since climbed into Gabe's lap and was regaling him with tales of kindergarten. Tall tales, Zach was sure. Shaun smiled, bumped back, then picked up the salad.

“You ready for dinner?” he asked as he swiftly moved around Zach and out onto the patio.

Zach stood in the kitchen another minute to watch his family – Cody climbing into his chair and eagerly picking up a dinner roll, Gabe as he stood in the living room and helped his girlfriend to her feet and Shaun as he laughed at something Cody said and helped the boy prepare his dinner plate. A wide grin spread across his face as he stuffed his hand into the potholders on the counter, then picked up the large pan of spaghetti noodles.

“Hey! It's about time!” Gabe said as Zach set the pot down onto the table. “Cody was about to whither away into nothing.”

“Was not!” Cody countered.

Zach chuckled and scooped out some noodles for Cody before serving himself and Shaun, then sat down beside Shaun. He carefully twirled some of the spaghetti around his fork. Watched Shaun watch him, he slurped the noodle through pursed lips. He chuckled softly when Shaun glared at him and bumped their knees together. Undaunted, he did it again and suffered an elbow this time. He grunted quietly and when he looked up, Gabe was watching them, laughing silently.

“Get a room, you two. Stop abusing the noodles and scarring us for life,” he teased affectionately.

Zach took a drink to hide his blush as Shaun leaned over and whispered, “I am so getting you back for this when everyone's gone and Cody's asleep.”

[livejournal.com profile] dragontatt asked for the Gilroy Garlic Festival

Even before he said anything, Zach could feel Shaun watching him in amusement. “What are you reading?” he asked, waving a hand at the brochure that Zach was reading.

“The Gilroy Garlic Festival,” Zach answered without looking up.

Shaun sat on the couch next to him and put his chin on Zach's shoulder as he read with him. “The what?”

“Gilroy Garlic Festival,” Zach said again. “It's a festival at the end of July and it's all about the garlic.”

“And you wanna go to this?” Shaun asked as he gently pried the brochure from Zach's fingers.

“Yeah. There's food and kid's activities for Cody and did I mention the food?” Zach explained.

Shaun laughed at him. “Yeah, you mentioned the food.”

Zach snatched the brochure back and pointed to a block of text. “Plus, the money goes to local charity, so it's a good thing all around.”

Shaun shook his head. “Man, I'm not going to be able to kiss you for a month after we leave.”

Zach laughed and pulled Shaun into his lap, then wrapped his arms around him. “I guess you'll have to eat some too, then we'll be even,” he teased.

And lastly, [livejournal.com profile] yana_ambf asked for curiousity. . . . (whew boy!)

Zach sat in the chair by the big bay window in the bedroom he shared with Shaun, sketch pad propped up on his knees, pencil tip pinched between his teeth as he watched Shaun try to work. He figured Shaun had spent more time growling and hitting the backspace than actually getting anything accomplished.

“Uncle Zach?” Cody asked from the open doorway. He looked a little uncertain, maybe even a bit worried.

Zach put his sketch pad down. “Hey Codes, what's up?” he asked as he waved Cody into the room.

“Why doesn't my mom want me?” he asked as he chewed his lower lip.

On the bed, Shaun snapped his laptop shut, slid it onto the nightstand and sat up. “What makes you ask that?” he asked. He patted the bed next to him and Cody and Zach both climbed up.

Cody let Zach pull him into a hug before answering. “Tommy Brown said I had to live with you and Daddy Shaun because my mom doesn't want me.”

Wordlessly, Zach looked at Shaun over Cody's head. How do you answer a question like that? he wondered. Of all the questions he'd expected Cody to come up with, that was not the one he'd thought Cody would ask first or even second.

Shaun cleared his throat. “Cody, she wants you buddy,” he began.

“Then why don't I live with her? Why does she live so far away?”

“Cody – Your mom does love you. Very much. It's because she loves you so much that you live with your Uncle Zach and me," Shaun tried.

Zach could tell from the look on Cody's face that that wasn't going to quite cut it with him. He still looked skeptical. “Cody – do you remember before we moved here? And how much your mom was never home and you were always with me?” He waited for Cody to nod before continuing. “Your mom was worried that she wouldn't be able to take care of you the way you need to be taken care of – so she let you come live with Daddy Shaun and me because she knew that we love you very much and we would take care of you. That's how much she loves you and if Tommy Brown says something again, that's what you should tell him.”

Cody was silent as he thought over what he'd been told by Shaun and Zach and Zach waited patiently and a little nervously. He could feel Shaun watching him as he watched Zach and he looked up, meeting his eyes. Shaun nodded once and Zach knew he'd explained right. He smiled as Cody nodded.

“Ok,” the boy said.

“Ok?” Zach echoed.

Cody nodded emphatically. “OK,” he said again.

And that concludes the five prompts!
