Kyle pulled his tee shirt on over his head and then ran his fingers through his damp hair, teasing it into place. He'd just picked up his iPod when someone knocked at the door. Frowning, he went over to answer it.
“Um, hey,” Oliver said as he offered up a shy smile. In one hand, he held a six-pack of beer, in the other, he carefully balanced a steaming pizza box. “I, uh, thought that maybe - ” He stopped and wiggled the beer instead.
Kyle smiled cautiously. He wasn't sure what was going on, but Oliver showing up at his door couldn't be all bad – could it?
In his room, Kyle had a small, worn out love seat with a coffee table and they each sat down at opposite ends. Kyle watched as Oliver fidgeted nervously and held a beer out to him with a shaky hand, but didn't say anything. Not yet. It was obvious that whatever had brought Oliver here tonight was important to him and Kyle was going to try to let him bring it up in his own time. For once, he wasn't going to push.
Finally, pizza half gone and a couple of beers later, Oliver set down the bottle he was currently nursing. Without a word, he slid closer, leaned over and lightly kissed Kyle. “You were right,” he finally said.
Kyle frowned in confusion. “About... ?”
“Everything.”
Kyle groaned in frustration. “Oliver – I - You have to say it. I need to hear you say it. Can you understand that? What was I right about?”
Oliver looked down at his hands clasped tightly in his lap. “I'm gay.” He looked up and something flashed in his eyes that made Kyle gasp. “OK? You were right all along. You were right then and you're right now.”
Kyle took a long pull off his beer. “Fine. I was right. You're gay. So – what? You've already made it perfectly clear that you're not interested.”
Oliver laughed bitterly. “No, see, that's the problem. I am interested, but I'm sure I've pretty much trashed my chances.” He stood abruptly and ran a hand through his hair nervously. “I should go. I don't know what I was thinking by coming here tonight.”
Kyle reached out and grabbed Oliver's wrist. He didn't know what he was doing, only knew that he had to make sure that Oliver didn't leave. That if he did, they might never get another shot at this. Oliver glanced quickly at where Kyle's fingers encircled his wrist, then met Kyle's gaze. Kyle stood and stepped close, sliding his free hand up over Oliver's shoulder.
“Don't go,” Kyle whispered before leaning up to kiss him.

The next morning, Kyle rolled over and thrust his hand out blindly, fingers reaching for warm flesh and only found cool sheets. The other half of his bed was empty. He opened his eyes, blinked a few times against the bright light pouring into his room and then stared. Oliver stood in front of the window, curtains open, bathed in early morning light. He'd wrapped the quilt from Kyle's bed around his shoulders. As he stared quietly out the window, Kyle was pretty sure he was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
Kyle sat up quietly and grabbed a pair of navy boxer briefs from the back of his chair, then slipped them on before standing and pulling them up the rest of the way. If Oliver heard him moving around, he didn't react. Kyle walked up behind him, slipped one arm around his waist and rested his chin lightly on Oliver's shoulder.
“Morning,” Kyle said softly before placing a light kiss on Oliver's bare shoulder.
Oliver finally looked at him and something inside Kyle twisted. There was a lost, distant look to his eyes. “Hey,” he answered and smiled a little.
“You ok?” Kyle asked, though he thought the answer was pretty obvious. They'd gone through so much to get to this point and Kyle knew it hadn't been easy for Oliver. Not easy for either of them, really.
Oliver took a moment to think about it before answering. Finally, he gave a small nod. “Yeah, actually. I am.”
Kyle relaxed and let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. He grinned brightly, knowing he must look a little bit stupid. “Yeah?” he asked.
Oliver turned and held the quilt open, then pulled Kyle inside. He wrapped his arms around Kyle and pulled him close. “Yeah. Thank you,” he whispered roughly.
Kyle wriggled loose and looked at Oliver in confusion. “For what?”
“Not giving up on me when you probably should have.”
Kyle cupped Oliver's face with his hands and chuckled. “Yeah, well. You knew I was stubborn. Besides, I knew it would be worth the wait,” he teased before kissing him again.
