Ian pulled back from the kiss and looked at Teddy. He touched his finger tips lightly to his lips and still watched Teddy, waiting for the freak out that always seemed to come after they had any sort of contact. But this time, it didn't come. Teddy was still there, watching him nervously and looking more than a little dazed himself.

"What - what was that?" Ian asked quietly.

Teddy offered a small, nervous smile. "Well, I thought that it was a kiss, but if I did it wrong..."

Ian almost laughed, but bit it back at the last second. "No! No, it was... It was definitely good."

Relief was immediate on Teddy's face. "Good. So I..."

"I still have cleaning up to do, but can I give you a ride after?" This was a conversation that Ian definitely wanted to have, but not now. Not when anyone could walk into the cabin at any time and interrupt them. This was something for privacy, where he knew they wouldn't be interrupted.

Finally, a genuine, bright smile that reached Teddy's eyes. "That would be great. Can I help?"

They cleaned up the last of the tiki torches, the lawn chairs, the table the caterer had long since cleaned off. Every so often, Ian would catch Teddy watching him curiously or he'd try to steal a glimpse of Teddy, but usually Ian just ended up getting caught. It was as though Teddy knew he was being watched.

Finally, they were cleaned up enough that they could leave. Ian's truck was the only one in the parking area. Keys in hand, he pushed the button that unlocked the doors as they approached. Inside, Ian put the key in the ignition, but didn't turn it. He sat with his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly, not looking at Teddy. A thousand questions whirled around his head and he didn't have a clue which of them to start with.

"Ian?" Teddy asked nervously. He put his hand on Ian's back and Ian made a choking sound. "Ian? Hey. What is this?"

Ian finally looked at Teddy. "I don't know. You tell me. Before, you were confused and needed time and usually couldn't get away from me fast enough and tonight you were helpful and ... and you kissed me. I guess it's my turn to be confused. What happened, Teddy?" Ian asked all in a rush. He was babbling, he knew, but if he didn't ask now, he was afraid he never would and he needed to know.

Teddy breathed out slowly. "Silver," he finally said as he looked out the truck window.

"Your ex? What does she have to do with it?"

"She asked me to come tonight – just as friends,” Teddy explained quickly, “and things were going really well, you know? But then one time when we were talking, I saw you talking to some guy and I felt ...."

"Jealous?" Ian supplied when Teddy seemed lost for words.

Now Teddy was looking at him too, and Ian watched him for every reaction as he explained.

Teddy nodded. "Yeah. Jealous. And then later, Silver must have misinterpreted things because I was just being nice, but she was... She kissed me and I didn't feel anything. And she could tell, because she pulled back and looked hurt. I hated that I'd put it there, but then I realized I'd done the same thing to you, too. Made you look like that. She asked what was wrong, if there was someone else."

All through this, Ian watched as Teddy rushed through his explanation. Watched the emotions play across Teddy's face. "What did you tell her?" Ian asked quietly.

Teddy smiled. "About then, I looked over her shoulder and there you were, being a goof by one of the fire pits and suddenly everything made sense to me for the first time in a long time."

Teddy paused again and Ian wanted to shake him for drawing it out like this, but he doubted Teddy even realized what he was doing. "And?" he pushed anyway.

"I told her that yes, there was someone else." He looked imploringly at Ian. "At least, I hope so. Please tell me it's not too late."

Ian shook his head and cleared his throat, then touched his fingertips to Teddy's jawline, smiling and slowly shaking his head. "No. No, it is definitely not too late," he whispered roughly. “But Teddy, I can't take the hot and cold. You're either in this or you're not.”

Teddy closed his eyes, swallowed roughly and nodded. “I'm in this,” he said quietly but firmly. “I am so in this,” he said again, then leaned over to kiss Ian again.

This time, Ian clung to the back of Teddy's head, fingers brushed through his short hair, holding on tight. One of them moaned, but Ian had no idea which of them it was and when he pulled back again, Teddy's eyes were heavy lidded and his lips were red and swollen. Ian smiled. He'd made Teddy look like that and he was going to get to do it again and again.

Ian cleared his throat. “Um. We better get going,” he said as he finally started his truck.
