Will was playing Scrabble with Marlena when his phone chirped, letting him know that he had a text message. He slid the phone away without checking it, then went back to studying his tiles.
“Are you going to get that?” Marlena asked.
“In a bit. We're playing a game.”
Marlena chuckled. “Will, it's one of your friends. Check your phone.”
“Ok, ok,” he answered as he slid the phone back and picked it up.
Need to talk. Come to the shop? Sonny asked.
Will quickly fingered his answer. Sure. Be there in a bit.
He put the phone down and met Marlena's expectant gaze. “Well?” she asked.
“It was Sonny asking me to come over, I said I would in a bit.”
Marlena went from chuckling to all out laugh. “Will! Your friend wants you to come over, you don't keep playing a game with your grandmother. Go!”
“You sure?”
“Yes, I'm sure. We can finish our game later.”
The whole way over, Will couldn't help but wonder what Sonny wanted. The shop was semi dark, but when Will tried the door, it pushed easily and he eased the door open. “Sonny?” he asked.
“Over here,” Sonny said from one of the tables. In front of him were two glasses that were filled with a dark liquid, pop Will suspected as it was too late for coffee.
Will entered and closed the door firmly behind him. “What's up?” he asked as he slid into the seat opposite Sonny.
Sonny pushed the glass at Will. “You tell me. Your dad came to see me today.”
Will sat up. “He what? What for?”
Sonny shook his head. “What's going on, Will?” he answered with a question.
Will took a drink, hiding behind the glass and dark liquid for a moment. “I sort of came out to mom and dad,” he finally admitted.
Sonny sat back and a smile twitched at the corner of his mouth. “Ooooh, well that explains everything.”
“You still haven't told me. Explains what?”
Sonny sat up again, leaning on his elbows as he met Will's gaze evenly. “Your dad came to see me today.”
“He... he what?” Will asked. What could his dad have wanted with Sonny? he wondered.
“Yeah. A couple of hours ago. It was... Well, at first I thought it was just an odd talk, but now? I get it.”
“Sonny – what did Dad want?” Will asked again.
“He asked me what my intentions towards you were,” Sonny said quickly.
“Your.. Intentions? Look, Sonny. I'm sorry. I'll talk to him again. Dad knows we're just friends. I've told him that.” Will waited for Sonny to answer him, to agree and thank him for talking to Lucas. “Sonny?”
Sonny released a quiet sigh of frustration and got up, walking quickly to the counter to wipe up imaginary crumbs or whatever else Sonny thought might be there. Will watched in confusion, waiting while Sonny worked out whatever it was that he wanted to say. Finally Sonny's hand stilled, and he looked up at Will.
“Are we just friends though? Are we really just friends, Will? Don't tell me that you haven't felt it, too.”
Will walked behind the counter and pried the damp cloth from Sonny's fingers. “Felt what?” he asked quietly as he gently set the cloth on the counter.
Sonny took a shuddering breath. “That day you stumbled into me. The day I gave you the coupon for the free coffee – Did you feel that?”
Will's breath caught in his throat and he swallowed roughly. “Yeah, I felt it,” he admitted.
And finally, for the first time since Will had gotten there that evening, Sonny visibly relaxed. “Good. I was worried it was just me. So what do we do now?” Sonny asked.
Will swallowed. Could he do it? No matter what he did next, it would alter their friendship forever. He knew what he wanted to do, though. He smiled nervously.
“Well, you could - ” he paused as his voice cracked, cleared his throat, tried again. “You could try kissing me,” he said softly.
Sonny smiled brightly and Will found himself smiling with him, feeling the smile to the tips of his toes. But without saying anything, Sonny bent his head in, lightly brushing his lips over Will's, then Will growled in frustration and pulled Sonny closer, slanting his head and deepening the kiss. He slid his hands over Sonny's hips, making a noise in the back of his throat as Sonny's hands slid over his shoulders before backing up a step.
Sonny inhaled a breath and ran a shaky hand through his hair. “Do you have any idea how long I have wanted to do that?” he asked roughly.
Will grinned. “Yeah, I think I have a pretty good idea. Do you want to do it again?” Will teased.
