chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3, chapter 4
Justin didn’t need to open his eyes to know that Lance was watching him from where he leaned against the wall, arms crossed over his chest.
“We could leave,” Justin said quietly.
Lance snorted.
“Well, we could,” Justin insisted.
“Justin.” The edge of the bed sagged under Lance’s weight as he sat down. Justin kept his eyes closed. He was relaxed, something he hadn’t felt in far too long, and he didn’t want to give that feeling up just yet. “Justin,” Lance said again. Damn, but Lance was stubborn. Justin growled in frustration and gave up,opening his eyes. Lance leaned down a little, pale green eyes meeting vibrant blue.“When is the last time you slept, J?”
“What the fuck, Lance?” Justin sat up, leaning against the headboard of the bed. He eyed the cross hanging over their door, felt the wards that were there. They were good. Solid. Whoever had put them in place was strong and knew what they were doing.
“When?” Lance pressed.
“I sleep every night.” He picked at the fuzz on the blanket.
“Bullshit. You toss and turn every night.” Justin glared as Lance brushed his cheek and used his fingertips to tip Justin’s chin, forcing him to meet his gaze. “I woke up and watched you last night, J. You actually slept. No, look at me,” he said when Justin tried to look away. “You slept. No nightmares,no screams. When is the last time that happened?”
“I don’t know,” Justin grumbled.
“I do.” Lance kissed him gently. “And you do too. It’s been way too long.”
Justin surrendered a small smile. “Way?”
Nodding,Lance matched Justin’s smile with one of his own. “Way. You’re safe here, J, and your subconscious knows it.” He stretched out on the bed and used Justin’s thigh as a pillow.
Justin combed the tips of his fingers through Lance’s hair. “I hate it when you’re right.”
“Of course you do. Now get down here,” Lance chuckled as he slid his hand along the inside of Justin’s thigh.
Much later, Justin and Lance lay in bed, their limbs tangled together. Justin untangled himself and stretched out on his back, smiling lazily as Lance curled against his side, palm flattening over Justin’s stomach.
They were waking up, just beginning to stir. Justin knew this because he could feel the young ones, those that hadn’t yet learned to shield themselves. He knew from past experience that if the young ones were awake, the mature ones would be as well.
“Lance,” he said, squeezing him gently. “Lance.”
Lance sat up, instantly awake. “Time to go?”
Justin grinned, sitting up next to him. “Time to go.”
They dressed in comfortable silence before finding Josh and Chris playing a game of cards in the common area. Josh paused midplay, watching them with open curiosity.
“Let’s go hunting,” Lance growled as Justin tried to suppress the excitement that shivered through his body.
