Title: I Don't Need a Lot, But I Need a Little
Author:
raynedanser
Pairing: Luke/Reid
Rating: PG13
Word Count: ~ 630
Author's Notes:
#1 - Takes place after the episode airing today. Posting now since it's going to get Joss'ed tomorrow. ;-)
#2 – In this, Reid wears glasses. I did this because a) in a recent fanpic with Eric, you can clearly see the outline of a contact lens in one eye and also because of a Law and Order clip in which Eric is wearing glasses (and in my world, they're his personal glasses)
#3 – Title from Caleb Kane's Longer.
*****
Reid locked Katie's door behind him, then moved around the apartment as he settled in for the night. He took out his contacts and showered quickly, then pulled on faded jeans and a sweat shirt left over from med school that had worn thin in most places. He slid his glasses into place before wandering into the kitchen to crack open a beer.
He was just raising it to his lips when Katie's doorbell chimed. He sighed. He could ignore it or he could answer it and tonight, after the day he'd had, ignoring it seemed like a really, really good idea. But then the doorbell began to chirp and wouldn't stop, as though someone was leaning on it and not letting go.
He set the beer on the counter with a thump, then opened the door. He was right. Luke was leaning against the wall, his elbow pressed against the doorbell button. Casual as you please.
“Oh, hi!” Luke said brightly, like he was actually surprised to see Reid open his own door.
“Mr. Snyder.”
“Luke,” he corrected as he pushed himself away from the wall. Reid stood by helplessly as Luke sailed into Katie's apartment and whirled around on him. “We need to talk.”
“We're doing that now.” Reid passed Luke, picked up his beer again, but didn't drink it. He sighed. “Talk about what?”
“Us.”
Reid finished his beer, but still didn't put it down. “I wasn't aware there was an us.” He watched warily as Luke approached him, holding him in place with that intense stare of his. He watched Luke's eyes, his shoulders, anywhere but those pouty lips of his that he longed to kiss.
“And that's part of the problem. Look, I know you don't think it's right to tell Noah, but I can't do this anymore. He thinks there's something between him and I, something more.”
“Isn't there?” Reid asked.
“No. Not anymore. Not like that. I know you're worried about his recovery, but I'm worried about you. This isn't fair to you,” Luke said. “How can you watch us day after day while I'm there with Noah and not be affected?”
“Life isn't fair, Mr. – Luke. I'll manage.”
“No.” Look shook his head forcefully. “No. That's not good enough. I don't want you to have to manage. It's only going to be worse if we wait.”
“And what exactly would you tell him?” Reid had to ask. He'd been trying to figure out where he stood with Luke for weeks; this was as good a chance as any to find out.
Luke stepped into his personal space. Stopped right in front of him and slid his hand up Reid's chest, stopping when he reached the frayed neckband of Reid's sweatshirt. “I would tell him that you and I have grown closer. That we've kissed. That we've almost had sex.” He chuckled when Reid raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Ok, maybe not that. But that I do have feelings for you and I want to see where those feelings go.”
Reid swallowed roughly, sure that Luke could hear. “You would tell him all of this? Why? Why would you do that?” he asked in a rough whisper.
“Because it's all true. Every bit of it. I can't pretend Noah is something to me that he's not any more than I can pretend that you're just his doctor. I don't want to pretend anymore. Is that so wrong?”
Reid reached up and cupped Luke's cheek like he'd done in the past, finally feeling as though he had a right to. “No, no it's not,” he said before dipping his head down and brushing his lips over Luke's.
