Justin knew these streets. Knew them well. He’d lived in the apartment building on the corner before everything had been turned upside down. Before his parents’ murder. This was the first time he had come back to the neighborhood since it had happened and he swallowed the fear down. He paused to look around, noting the changes since the night he’d left. That last day had been a bright summer day filled with children playing at the park on the corner across from his building; the sound of their laughter echoed up and down the street. Now, instead of children’s toys and bicycles scattered on the lawns, they were barren. Locked fences surrounded yards that had once been open, though Justin knew they wouldn’t help, only served to provide a false sense of security.
His steps were sure and confident as they landed silently on the asphalt. Quiet, like the Pull inside him was quiet tonight. Not weak, but not screaming for him to follow, either. Lance’s fingers curled around his and Justin smiled at him; it was only a matter of time until it was stronger.
He set a brisk pace. There was no time to linger or look around. Chris and Josh walked with them tonight, watching to see what they could do, staying back enough that they could move, but not so much to lose protection from being too far apart. He knew they would be able to meet his pace. They had no choice, really. They didn’t know the neighborhood. And these days, that could be lethal.
They’d almost reached Mr. Mueller’s house when Justin felt the Pull grow and twist inside him. He wrapped his fingers around Lance’s arm, pulled him to a stop. He knew without looking that Chris and Josh had stopped behind them. He didn’t move, didn’t turn his head, just concentrated.
“J?” Lance asked, barely loud enough to be heard.
Justin shook his head. “Not yet, but it’s close. And old. I’ve never felt it like this before.” He met Lance’s concerned gaze, felt Josh and Chris’s watchful eyes on him, knew that they were curious.
“What does it feel like?”
Justin waited a moment before shaking his head. “Different. I don’t know. Usually I can feel what Line they’re from. Each Line’s Pull feels different. But this is a new one. Stronger, but it’s also a different Line.”
“What does that mean?” Josh asked from behind them.
Justin sighed in frustration. “It means I don’t know what to expect from them. It means there’s someone new in town. It means we could end up in a whole shitload of trouble.”

I didn't say it wasn't a good place to stop, I even stated it repeatedly, I'm just saying you need to make the chapters longer.
Because I am a greedy whore like that.
LOL!

Date: 2006-02-15 02:44 pm (UTC)I JUST started Ch 7. ;-) As in 20 words or so. lol I have an idea of what I want to do with it, so this is good.
And OMG! No! Backstreet would NEVER enter the picture as the bad guys. no no no. lol! Actually, I'm thinking the bad guys are probably going to end up being pretty generic and boring. ;-) Well, as boring as bad guys CAN be. ;-)
Thank you for all of your feedback. I really appreciate it.

Date: 2006-02-15 03:36 pm (UTC)THAT has potential. Especially Ashley, because his "beauty" (O-Town era, not now) could be part of his "power."
